Guards nail down title!

October 22, 2008 by

Bellarmine-Jefferson win league: The Guards girls’ team wrapped up its third straight league championship with a first place finish Wednesday at the Santa Cruz League meet at Elysian Park.

“We are very happy to win the title for the third time,” Bell Jeff Coach Mike Morgan said. “This is a great accomplishment for the girls.”

As of Friday, Morgan hadn’t received the official times and scoring from the meet from host Salesian.

There was some confusion with the course, which is near Dodger Stadium.

“Part of the course wasn’t marked very well, so some runners ran off the course during races,” Morgan said.

One of those runners was Bell-Jeff’s April Tiscareno, who had to settle for second place. Teammate Gio Gonzalez placed third.

On the boys’ side, Bell-Jeff placed third behind champion Salesian and runner-up St. Genevieve.

One of the Guards’ top runners did not run the race because of disciplinary reasons, Morgan said.

“The great thing about the boys was that every single one of our runners improved their placement from the last league race,” Morgan said.

Bryan Encerraro placed third and Isael Farias was fifth for Bell-Jeff.
