Late Guard Heroics Win Game!

September 27, 2008 by

Thanks to some last minuet heroics, our Varsity Guards pulled off a squeeker against the Frazier Mountain Falcons (1-2) on Friday night.

The guards scored first on a sweep by Bronson but that lead was short lived as the Falcons got on the board a few plays later.

The game teetered back and forth with Frazier Mountain holding a 6 point lead after a score late in the 4th quarter.

The Guards took over at their 20 yard line with approximately 2:24 on the clock and marched down the only to lose the ball on downs at the Falcons 20 and all looked lost. That’s when the heroes stepped up beginning with senior Javier and the play of the game, who somehow taking the football right out of the opposing quarterbacks hands and scampered down the sideline before being pushed out of bounds giving the Guards the ball at midfield.

Then, on second down, with only 1:40 left, came the play that sealed the game, a bomb from quarterback Daniel Radoccia to sophomore wide out Micah Shirley who caught the ball in stride and turned on the jets sprinting 78 yards for the winning touchdown once again displaying the “big-play capability” he showed in the Malibu game.

Final Score 21 – 19!

After that, it was up to our defense to hold the Falcons and seal the win to even their record to (2-2).

Earlier, the JVee’s, (3-1) were handed their first loss by these same Falcons. Hard running tailback/safety junior JT and Bobby (took one down the sideline for a score) led the offense, but the defense couldn’t keep the Falcons out of the end zone to recreate the magic that garnered them a 3-0 start.

They did get some good news in the form of new players freshmen Elijah Reed, Andre Frazier and junior transfer Emery Else.

Playing in their first ever tackle football game, Elijah started the game at linebacker, led the team in tackles and also saw time at wide receiver and running back. Emery, also playing a couple of positions on defense, had the play of the game gathering in an interception late in the third quarter and taking it to the house! Then, 6’3″ Andre lined up on the left side and snatched one in the end-zone for an apparent score that was waved off for pass interference.

After the penalty, JT punched it in for the score and Andre redeemed himself with catch for the two point conversion.
