Lady Guards Defeat Torrance!

December 28, 2009 by

CHINO HILLS – Barley home from a third place finish at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Arizona, the Bell-Jeff Lady Guards were back on the court Friday night to face the Torrance Tartars’ in round one of yet another week long tournament, the Ayala/New Balance Best of the West Invitational.

The contest started out slowly as both teams had trouble finding the basket and the Tartar’s were able to keep the game close at the free throw line thanks to numerous Bell-Jeff fouls.

But, by the second quarter, the defending state champs had opened a double digit lead and coach Camacho was substituting freely.

Torrance again tried to make a game of it in the third quarter with timely three point shooting from junior Brittany Quon and sophomore Fatih Matsuda but had no answer for Bell-Jeff’s defensive press or sophomore forward Jasmine Smith who was a dominate force inside and on the boards.

Three minuets into the fourth quarter, the game was all but over thanks to clutch shooting from sophomore Rishonda Napier, senior’s Margeaux Gupilan and Julia Tani and coach Camacho sat his starters for the majority of the fourth quarter and soundly defeated the Torrance Tartars 85-61.

Bell-Jeff’s next game is Monday 12/28 at Ayala High School when they will face the Centennial-Corona Huskies, game time 4:30pm.
