Staying In Title Contention!

GIRLS BASKETBALL – Expectations have been high this season for the Bellarmine-Jefferson High girls’ basketball team. That’s understandable, taking into consideration the Guards won Santa Cruz, CIF Southern Section and state championships last season.

Bell-Jeff (15-4, 1-0 going into Tuesday’s game) has played just one league contest. That win came Friday, as the Guards downed St. Anthony, 69-53. The Saints were thought to be a serious threat to challenge Bell-Jeff in league this year.

Coach Bryan Camacho has given his team a wealth of experience this season playing in some top-notch tournaments.

Bell-Jeff’s losses have come against talented teams: Bishop Montgomery, 66-59; Harvard-Westlake, 69-47 and 66-62; and Santiago, 77-55.

The Guards have a fine crop of players that includes Jasmine Smith, Margeaux Gupilan, Rishonda Napier, Layana White and Leslie Lopez-Wood.
