Bell-Jeff Coach Resigns!

BURBANK – First-year Burbank Bellarmine-Jefferson girls’ basketball coach David Jensen has resigned “for personal family reasons,” he said.

He will be replaced by the school’s athletic director, Jaclyn Johnson, a Bell-Jeff alum. Johnson played for the University of Kansas from 1997 to 2001 and was the 42nd pick in the 2001 WNBA draft by the Orlando Miracle, where she played 17 games. She went on to play overseas in Turkey, Greece and Israel.

“It’s definitely different for me coaching high school girls,” she said. “It’s exciting.”

The Guards return with University of Arizona-bound senior Layana White, junior Rishonda Napier, junior Jasmine Smith and sophomore Leslie Lopez-Wood from last year’s team that went undefeated in the Santa Cruz league and finished with a record of 25-7.

They also have two talented transfers: Junior Johnece Miller from Stockdale High and sophomoreClarissa Larios from Eagle Rock.
