Saints come back from 14 to beat Bell-Jeff!

LONG BEACH - St. Anthony High School held a party for their new court before Friday’s game, then held a late-arriving but just as successful second party on it. A few hours after officially dedicating the Darrick Martin Court in honor of the Saints and NBA veteran who was the 1988 CIF player of the Year, the Saints rallied from a 19-5 first-quarter deficit and beat Bell-Jeff, 45-44, before a packed house in Jack Errion Gymnasium.
The court dedication was the culmination of a process of almost one year that put a new floor on the 61-year-old gym.
The Saints (13-9, 4-3 in Santa Fe League play) got off to a very slow start, waiting until almost 12 minutes into the game before netting their first field goal. Bell Jeff jumped out to 9-0 and 19-5 leads and it was 23-6 before the Saints sank a shot.
They cut the lead to nine before halftime. Senior guard Ronnie Ong then scored 14 points in the third quarter on five fields goals, four of them three-pointers, to take a 34-32 lead.
The teams exchanged the lead throughout the fourth quarter before the pivotal play. Tied at 44, Bell-Jeff tried to call a timeout they didn’t have after picking up a loose ball with 4.8 seconds left. Michael Cortez sank one of two free throws and the Saints survived a turnover in the final two seconds to win. Ong and Ikenna Ogoke each had 19 for the Saints. (click to read full story)

JV Guards Make It 3 Straight Over The Saints!
The JV Guards, led by Austin Mitsunaga (game high 19 points) and Elijah Reed (13 points), spoiled part of the Saints homecoming festivities with a 20 point blowout in the early game. The Guards, started the league matchup slow holding on to a slim 22 - 20 halftime lead.
Coach Chris had his team turn up the defensive pressure in the second half, with Ignacio Cabrera leading the block party and Galen Quintero cleaning the boards, to hold St. Anthony to just 16 points on the way to a 56 - 36 victory and a three game sweep of the Saints.
