All-Area First Team Softball!

mia_acostaThe following local players, were named to the Burbank Leader All Area 1st Team in softball. Bell-Jeff is proud to have two players as well as a coach on this team.

P – Mia Acosta, Junior, Bell-Jeff

Santa Cruz League Pitcher of the Year compiled a 16-3 record with 102 strikeouts and had a 1.68 ERA in 116 2/3 innings. Opponents hit just .192 off her. Was also accomplished at the plate, hitting .446 (37 for 83) with 38 RBI, 24 runs, six doubles, four triples and five home runs for CIF-champion Guards.

INF – Hailey Cookson, Sophomore, Crescenta Valley

All-Pacific League second-teamer hit a team-high .467 (43 for 92) with 24 runs, 12 RBI, four doubles and three triples. In addition, she had a .479 OBP and .576 slugging percentage.

OF – Hannah Cookson, Junior, Crescenta Valley

Was a steady force in the outfield, earning All-Pacific League first-team honors. She hit .435 (37 for 85) with 34 RBI, 31 runs, eight doubles, seven homers and four triples to go along with a .505 OBP and .871 slugging percentage.

P – Michelle Floyd, Senior, San Marino

Arizona-bound hurler was named Rio Hondo League’s Pitcher of the Year, going 16-8 with a 0.74 ERA that included 299 strikeouts and 17 earned runs over 160 2/3 innings. Finished with a career total of 1,136 strikeouts, which placed her ninth on the CIF Southern Section all-time list. Also batted .429 with 30 hits, 20 RBI, 18 walks and two homers.

INF – Sumner Hanula, Senior, Flintridge Sacred Heart

All-Mission League first-team selection batted .529 with seven doubles, four triples, three home runs and 33 RBI. Also recorded 12 stolen bases, scored 28 runs and posted an .882 slugging percentage.

UTL – Katie Hooper, Senior, Burbank

Four-year standout, who is headed to CSUN, helped Bulldogs win the Pacific League championship. Earning first-team all-league honors, she hit .526 with 40 hits, 21 RBI, 25 runs scored and five home runs.

OF – Caroline Knop, Junior, La Salle

Named to the Del Rey League first team. Along with a .430 batting average, she also tallied 34 hits, 25 runs, 16 RBI, five doubles and three homers.

monique_CIF-hsINF – Monique Landini, Senior, Bell-Jeff

Was named the CIF Division VI Player of the Year and the Santa Cruz League Player of the Year, hitting .410 (41 for 100) for the Guards. In addition, she drove in 25 runs, scored 31 runs and had six doubles, seven triples, four home runs and a .730 slugging percentage.

OF – Olivia Leyva, Junior, La Cañada

The All-CIF and All-Rio Hondo League first-teamer hit .405 (30 for 74) with 30 RBI, 28 runs, seven doubles, six homers and three triples, Also posted a .824 slugging percentage, .476 OBP and had a .957 fielding percentage with two errors in 46 chances.

C – Michelle Santiago, Sophomore, Burroughs

The first-team All-Pacific League backstop was one of the Indians’ most consistent hitters, enjoying a .443 batting average to go along with 35 hits, 13 RBI, 34 runs, four triples and five home runs.

INF – Kaitlyn Williams, Senior, Hoover

Only earned All-Pacific League honorable-mention honors despite hitting .528 batting (28 for 53) with 19 runs, 27 RBI, eight doubles, four homers and a triple to go along with a .943 slugging percentage and a .606 OBP. Headed to Louisiana Tech after a standout four-year tenure for the Tornadoes.

UTL – Amy Zeronian, Senior, Marshall

University of Belmont-bound infielder was the team’s leadoff hitter and batted .594 with 38 hits, 31 runs, 12 RBI, 15 stolen bases, six homers and five doubles, earning All-Alpha League first-team accolades.

After falling in the championship game the two previous years in CIF Southern Section Division VII, the Guards finally broke through this past season and captured a title in Division VI. It was the program’s first crown. In addition to the CIF title, Bell-Jeff went 23-10 and captured its fourth straight Santa Cruz League championship.
