BASEBALL: Vasquez 15, Bellarmine-Jefferson 0: The Guards had a tough time in suffering a CIF Southern Section Division VI first-round loss Friday afternoon on the road.

Bell-Jeff, which placed third in the Santa Fe League, finishes the season with an 11-7 record.

Against the Mustangs (17-2) — a freelance team and the No. 4 seed — the Guards got hits from Mitch Kellogg, Patrick Haney Matt Landini and Martin Pinedo.

“We played against a very good team and a very good pitcher,” Bell-Jeff Coach Hector Perez said. “But I was very impressed with the way our kids battled.

“We only lose one kid to graduation. We wanted to use this as a learning experience.”

Bell-Jeff trailed just, 4-0, in the third inning.

“I think our youth really showed in the later innings,” Perez said.
