Lady Guards Look To Repeat!

BURBANK – The new school year is underway at Bellarmine-Jefferson high school and the 2008-2009 Div V State Champions Lady Guards are looking forward to another fantastic year.

Even with the loss of two seniors, 2 time player of the year and female athlete of the year Shelley Gupilan and Elizabeth Hawthorne all state 2nd team they were recently ranked in the top 3 by several media outlets and projected to repeat as champs.

Under the direction of CIF Coach of the year Bryan Camacho, Bell-Jeff is returning 4 starters, Margeaux Gupilan, Rishonda Napier, Julia Tani and Jasmine Smith including two All State/All CIF players, (Margeaux Gupilan, Rishonda Napier), along with incoming freshman Leslie Lopez-Woods who proved herself this summer to be an impact player. All five of these young ladies were recently rated among the top players in the state by CalHigh Sports. (read article)

Other names to watch are junior transfer Layana White, who can play several positions and earned 1st team all Foothill league honors last year at Canyon high school averaging 14 points and 3.2 steals per game, plus sophomore transfers Khia Jones (Sierra Canyon HS) and Marilyn Flynn (Burroughs HS).

Bell-Jeff Morns Loss of A Family Member!

BURBANK- Last Friday August 14, Bell-Jeff, lost a special member of it’s family with the passing of junior Anthony Aiello’s father, Steve Aiello.

Steve, loved baseball and was a true servant of the Lord always gave of his time and talents with a smile on his face.

He and his wife Joyce, were fixtures on the Booster Club Committee and along with their son Anthony, donated countless hours of their time to various projects and events at Bell-Jeff.

We will all miss that BIG smile and those “delicious GUARD Dogs” he diligently grilled at all the football and many basketball home games.

Service are this Saturday at St. Charles Borromeo Church in North Hollywood and there is a memorial fund set up to support local youth baseball organizations.

Bell-Jeff Shines At USA Cheer Camp!

Brentwood, Ca- Bell-Jeff Cheer attended USA Cheer Camp on campus at UCLA this past week.

And holding true to our motto of “The Small school with BIG results”, they did not come back empty handed.

Newly appointed coach Jill Machuca, proud of her squad and their hard work saying, “In all my years of coaching, I honestly have never seen a team change so dramatically at camp. They worked diligently and are not the same team I took over in June. It was inspiring.”

The team, made up of 13 girls and 2 boys, brought home 4 Superior Evaluations – and at closing ceremonies, they were presented a Superior plaque to bring home to the school. In addition, 2 Bell Jeff cheerleaders were selected to the All-American team. 

According to Coach Machuca, “Only 19 from over 200 campers were chosen for this honor and 2, Senior -Shannon Apsay and Freshman – Kristen Lago were from Bell-Jeff!”

Both of these young ladies will have the opportunity to represent Bell Jeff in London this December with other USA All-Americans in a New Year’s parade.
